When this mannequin was spotted in a window of La Perlas shop in NYC it caused social media uproar! The mannequin went a step too far in representing skinny, although to be fair to La Perlas painfully thin models are nothing new. It’s hit headlines this time because it's more palatable to criticise a shop dummy instead of a living breathing model. We aren’t used to seeing such raw-boned mannequins on the high street instead of the catwalk either.
As a visual merchandiser i work with mannequins everyday - the mannequins in store are all dressed in a S (UK 6-8) - this to me is an unrealistic image of women in society today although, there is no denying that clothes do look better on a smaller frame.
For me this mannequin is a step too far, the protruding ribs and hip bones in red underwear just don't work, think how much sexier the curvy brunette from the special k adverts is compared to this!
let me know what you think ladies?
